First working NHS Surgeon dies of Coronavirus. Adil El Tayar, aged 68 had worked around the world including in Saudi Arabia, Sudan as well as at St Mary’s and St George’s hospitals in London. Dr El Tayar had been self-isolating after developing symptoms around mid-March and he was admitted to hospital on 20 March.

PM tests positive for coronavirus and self isolates but will continue to address the nation. He advised that he had experienced mild symptom so far including temperature and a cough.
As the number of people who have died rises, frontline hospital staff in England are starting to be tested to see whether they have coronavirus. Workers with symptoms and those who live with people who have symptoms will be checked – starting with hundreds of critical care doctors and nurses, followed by tests for A&E staff, paramedics and GP’s.
The Government has ordered 10,000 ventilators from Dyson to help deal with the coronavirus crisis. The firm has designed a new type of ventilator in response to a call on behalf of the NHS, although the order is still subject to the devices passing stringent medical tests but that is expected to happen quickly.
NHS staff are being asked to move quickly to work in the new field hospital being constructed at the ExCel conference centre in London which will act as a “first major wave of surge capacity”, HSJ can reveal. The Nightingale Hospital is expected to host up to 4,000 beds in two “wards”
21 deaths out of a total of 83 deaths in the last 24hrs have been reported at one single trust, London North West University Healthcare Trust. Patients were between 33 and 103 years of age and all in vulnerable health groups and /or with underlying conditions.
NHS staff put under pressure as they are urged to look after up to six patients in intensive care as opposed to the usual one patient. The guidelines have been relaxed due to a lack of staff but there are concerns this will reduce the quality of care.
NHS 111 gives out wrong advice on coronavirus
The government has admitted that NHS 111’s online service has been giving the wrong advice to travellers returning from Italy. Public Health have now advised that all people returning from Italy will need to self-isolate at home for 14 days.
